Auntie Paula’s Meatballs with the Sauce

Recipe from my Auntie Paula.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of hamburger
  • 1 egg
  • About 8-10 crackers
  • Half an onion, chopped up into small pieces
  • Salt & pepper
  • 1 cup of water
  • ¾ cup of ketchup
  • ½ teaspoon of dry mustard
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Combine hamburger, egg, crackers (crushed), salt & pepper in a large bowl, mix well and roll into balls
  3. Place wax paper on a cookie sheet, place balls about 2 inches apart on the wax paper.
  4. Cook meatballs on cookie sheet for 20-25 minutes
  5. While meatballs cook, prepare sauce in a casserole dish
  6. Add water, ketchup, dry mustard, brown sugar, vinnegar, and salt to the casserole dish, mix with a whisk
  7. When meatballs are finished cooking (they do not have to be 100% cooked as they will cook more once put in the sauce), add to the sauce in the casserole dish.
  8. Turn the oven down to 300
  9. Cook meatballs, uncovered, in the sauce for another 30 minutes.

Serve and enjoy! Note: my favorite side with these is rice!
